Nowadays, it’s not enough to manufacture systems with low consumption technology, you have to go above and beyond. That’s why we’ve created this short guide to help our users get the most out of their Rointe radiators.

Set the temperature between 18 and 21ºC

To obtain a warm but healthy environment, we recommend a temperature between 18 and 21ºC. This will keep your home comfortable, whilst helping to reduce your energy consumption.

The basic level of warmth required for a healthy, well-dressed person is 18ºC. This standard is recognised by the WHO and the minimum standard for the UK Cold Weather Plan. Of course, some of us (like the elderly or ill) need higher temperatures, but for the average healthy person, high temperatures can cause cardiovascular risk, headaches and dry atmospheres which irritate the skin.

Ultimately the purpose of your heating system is to keep you warm during the colder months, but for most people, we recommend a healthy range between 18 and 21ºC depending on your needs.

Reducing the temperature by just 1ºC can reduce your heating bill by up to £85 per year.

Don't cover your radiator

Our radiators dissipate heat through a perfect combination of natural air convection alongside radiation.

If the radiator fins are covered or an object placed in front (like sofas, wardrobes, cupboards etc.), this will interrupt the convection and prevent radiation heat.

It’s also dangerous to place objects on or in front of any heating appliance, as it could cause overheating or fire risk.

Proper programming uses only the energy needed

The correct programming of our products is essential to achieve maximum efficiency and true comfort. 

In our experience the longer you leave your radiators on for the better. This not only evens out your usage but helps tackle damp. The trick is to not have them on continuously for 24 hours a day.

We would recommend programming them to be on for 3 to 4 hour bursts, under 21ºC, three times a day (morning, afternoon, evening or the times to best suit your needs) with the anti-frost setting in between.

This means your radiators are on for a maximum period of 9 to 12 hours a day total at a constant, comfortable even heat. When you’re not in the property the lower anti-frost or Eco setting is active, which will help save you energy and money.

It’s best to program your radiators to come on 1 hour before you’re due to arrive home and switch off when you normally go to bed. This will ensure a warm and inviting arrival without consuming excessive kWh.

Use our new User mode to limit the temperature range

Throughout the day, our thermal needs can fluctuate and change according to the time. That’s why our radiators have a new feature, User mode. 

This function allows you to set a personalised temperature range with a minimum and maximum temperature and locked by a password. It’s a useful function as it restricts the selectable temperatures and avoids energy waste.

You simply set the desired temperature per mode below and program when you wish the modes to be active during the day. Your Rointe heating system will then work according to your programming:


A standard temperature of 7ºC where, when activated, the product works at this lower temperature without increasing consumption to prevent freezing.


A temperature range between 7 and 19ºC that’s useful for periods of time when there is nobody present at home but the property still needs to be heated at a lower temperature.


A temperature range between 20 and 30ºC for when the home or property is occupied and the temperature needs to be increased for comfort.

User mode is ideal for installations carried out in public places such as hotels or schools, allowing users to modify the temperature of the product within a limited chosen range.

Choose a suitable electricity tariff

The UK has a wide variety of energy providers including the Big Six (British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON, Npower, Scottish Power and SSE), alongside newer, smaller suppliers. 

They all have different rates and customer satisfaction scores. However, with prices rising year on year, it’s important to choose the right tariff and supplier for your needs.

Many of us have stayed with the same provider for years, mainly because we believe it’s easier than switching. Comparing suppliers can not only save you money, but it could also help with your energy consumption and its easy to do. If you’re thinking of switching, your potential suppliers should talk you through their different tariffs, rates and provide advice on your energy consumption. They’ll even organise the switch for you and contact your current supplier to let them know.

Turning off your radiators when not at home

Turning off your heating when you’re not going to be around may sound like an obvious and simple factor, but it’s surprising how many of us heat empty rooms in a property or ones that don’t need it for a long period of time.
